Ⅰ - [Business
}> Lastpass announced that it will become an independent company
. That’s right after Logmein acquired the company dismantled the free options and continually raised prices, it appears Lastpass doesn’t want to be associated with the Logmein name any longer.
Ⅱ - [Applications
]> Microsoft is rolling out end-to-end encryption for its Teams application. More details here
Ⅲ - [Hardware]> CES happened, sort of. Here’s a snippet of the interesting stuff talked about this year:
- Dell has offered a webcam concept called Pari
. I like what they’re doing with all these concepts
- A new wallet-sized card
that uses the Apple Find My network (I expect to see lots of these).
- TVs from every major manufacturer
in all sorts of form-factors.
- Anker has announced a ‘video-bar
’ (don’t call it a webcam).
Ⅳ - [Crime
]> Forensic Anthropology. The study of what happens after a person dies. An interesting topic, but not for the faint of heart. Warning: graphic content. See the video here
Ⅴ - [Society
]> People are having far less sex. The findings of a new study
raise some serious questions about these trends.
Ⅵ - [Digital Commerce
- you’ve heard of them. Non-Fungible tokens. The history of this $40+ Billion
market is fraught with issues. A great video that covers this is The Problem With NFTs
(long and dense). Perhaps one interesting push in the NFT market is to sell images or approximations of real things (but not the real thing itself). Julian Lennon has one such market
for this. Quentin Tarantino has also dropped his own
too much legal attention. There are even Cheech and Chong
NFTs. Could we see an entire parallel market for real goods, then the digital captures of the goods afterwards? Could entire recorded lives (after a person dies) be sold as an NFT?
Ⅶ - [Gaming
]> Everyone is going crazy for a simple word game; Wordle
. I won’t say any more because you’re probably already sick of hearing about it.
Ⅷ - [Hosting
]> A new reverse proxy tool geared towards making things easier for self-hosters. Seems like a good idea
Ⅸ - [Security
]> QNAP is a warning to keep your NAS devices from being directly connected
to the Internet.
Ⅹ - [Utility
is a real-time log viewer for Docker containers. Its search function seems to be useful with a quick interface.
